The U.S. has officially stopped manufacturing new pennies for circulation, and more businesses are moving toward “nickel rounding” for cash transactions.
To keep your checkout smooth (and fair), TruckWash POS now supports unbiased cash rounding to the nearest $0.05 — and it’s optional.

How it works (Unbiased / Fair Rounding)

When enabled, TWPOS rounds the final after-tax total for cash payments to the nearest nickel:

• Totals ending in …1, …2, …6, …7 round down
• Totals ending in …3, …4, …8, …9 round up
• Totals ending in …0 or …5 stay the same

This keeps rounding balanced over time (not always rounding up).

Multi-Payment Tickets (No Money Lost)

If a ticket has multiple payment types (example: part cash + part credit/check), TWPOS ensures nothing is lost due to rounding:

• The rounding difference is applied intelligently so the ticket still matches exactly.
• Any “pennies difference” is shifted onto the non-cash tender line (credit/check) when needed, while cash follows the nickel rounding rule.

Per-Location Setting (On or Off)

This feature can be enabled per location:

• Off by default (if you want it that way)
• Turn it on only for sites that accept cash frequently
• Keep it off for locations that run mostly card/fleet billing

Why this matters

• Faster checkout (less “coin math”)
• Cleaner cash drawer balancing
• Fair rounding behavior
• Digital payments remain exact (no rounding unless cash is involved)
